Keep in mind that if you're hiring a moving company, damage to items inside boxes you pack yourself (packed by owner - PBO) will not be covered by your mover's valuation unless there is obvious damage to the outside of the box.

Basic Packing Supplies
If you're doing your own packing you'll want to invest in some good quality moving and packing supplies, like:
- Quality moving boxes, designed specifically for moving.
- Packing tape and packing tape dispenser.
- Labeling supplies. If you want to print your labels on the computer, you can buy sheets of labels. You'll still need markers for items you need to label by hand.
- Bubble wrap. Get at least two different sizes of bubble - small and large. The smaller bubbles are good for lightweight items where the large air bubbles are better for heavier items you pack.
- Plain paper. Avoid using newsprint because the ink easily transfers to dishes, ceramics and similar items. For wrapping individual breakables, plain packing paper is a far better choice.
