Local Moves Still Require Planning
If you’re getting ready to make a short move, you might be tempted to take a few shortcuts, but resisting the urge to do so can save you a lot of headaches down the road. The fact of the matter is local moves still require some careful planning to help ensure the packing, loading, unloading and unpacking go smoothly.
It doesn’t matter if you’re moving a block down the street or 100 miles away, a local move can be made a lot easier if you do a few things in advance and try to keep organization high. Here are some basic tips to help make local moves go more smoothly:
- Plan your move: This means mapping out a calendar in advance of your local move. For example, start collecting moving boxes about a month ahead of time and begin packing up things you won’t need during the transition. Save the things you can’t live without until the last day, such as toiletries and necessary kitchen items. Even mark down a day to visit the Post Office for change of address cards.
- Make arrangements for pets: If you have pets, you’ll want to decide well in advance how to take care of them on the move. This is important no matter the distance of the move.
- Lessen your load: This means getting rid of things you don’t need. This process should be started as early as possible, as it can alter the size moving truck you will need.
